Medical establishment failure to take monkeypox seriously.
Since it mostly impacts men who have sex with men, we can see from this article that there is going to be a half-hearted response.
I came across this article this morning and decided I need to respond immediately.
“What does the future look like for monkeypox?” in Nature magazine, Oct. 12, 2022. This is the URL.
https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-03204-7
What I learned from the article is that the future will include a complacent and lackadaisical response to monkeypox.
Also, the idea that the shutdown of the sex lives of Gay people is a solution.
PART 1: Lets stop blaming Gay peoples sex lives.
The real source of the problem, medical establishment incompetence.
From the article, “What does the future look like for monkeypox?” in Nature magazine.
… a form of the virus could have reached a population whose behaviours led it to spread more rapidly, Elliot Lefkowitz, a bioinformatician at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. [Boldface added.]
Quoting Lefkowitz:
“I think we are in a good position to control this epidemic, but it will mostly rely on the behaviour of the population,” says Gerardo Chowell-Puente, an epidemiologist at Georgia State University in Atlanta. [Boldface added.]
So the solution to Lefkowitz is to shut down Gay sex lives which are identified as the source of the problem.
Medical experts see the reduction of monkeypox changes due to the shutdown of Gay sex lives. From the same article.
In the United States and Europe, confirmed monkeypox infections have been declining since mid-August.
Public-health experts credit behavioural change: a study1 by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that surveyed men who have sex with men found that around half had been curbing risky sexual activity because of concerns about the virus.
Of course until a person can get vaccinated, and the general population gets vaccinated, it is a good idea to slow down your sex life, but the current plan is to slow down Gay life indefinitely. This will be discussed in Part II.
Who is to blame for the current outbreak? The medical establishment.
The issue is that there have been warnings of the susceptibility of the public to monkeypox due to the stopping of smallpox vaccinations and African scientists have warned the Western world that they were at risk and that they should help develop a monkeypox vaccine.
This article of June 23, 2022 was titled, “Monkeypox in Africa: the science the world ignored.” (Nature magazine.)
https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-01686-z
They point out that they have long been warning of the potential for the monkeypox virus, which has been behaving in new ways, to spread more widely. [Boldface added.]
The African scientists had warned that monkeypox was spreading in new ways and might spread through sexual contact.
After 2017, she and other epidemiologists warned1 that the virus was spreading in an unfamiliar way: it was appearing in urban settings, and infected people sometimes had genital lesions, suggesting that the virus might spread through sexual contact. With the virus now proliferating in Western cities through what seems to be close contact with sexual partners, “the world is paying the price for not having responded adequately” in 2017, she says.[Boldface added.]
The lack of interest in industrial nations of dangerous viruses in tropical nations and the risk to global health because of it, has been in the scientific press for some time, decades, and there continued to be a lack of a significant and adequate research program into tropical diseases.
Yet the focus seems to be that if we shutdown the sex lives of Gay people the problem is solved, rather than we need to stop ignoring tropical diseases.
There is another bungling factor in responding to monkeypox. That is not considering what happens when you stop smallpox vaccinations.
From the same article:
At the same time, researchers have been warning that cases of monkeypox in sub-Saharan Africa have been rising for years. In part, this is because countries stopped giving people vaccines against smallpox, which is caused by variola, a virus that is closely related to the one that causes monkeypox. Smallpox was eradicated in 1980 and vaccination was halted, meaning that the percentage of the population vulnerable to it — and thus to monkeypox — has been growing (see ‘Monkeypox cases rising in Africa’). [Boldface added.]
The lack of considering that with the end of smallpox vaccination would allow monkeypox to spread was ignored.
However, now the solution for the establishment is to shutdown Gay sex life.
PART TWO: Isn’t the solution to get everyone vaccinate?
Yes, if the health of sexually active Gay people was considered important.
For a completely new virus Covid-19 a vaccine developed, tested for efficiency and safety, and manufacturing program was done so that the entire American population could get two initial shots, then two boosters, and then the Omicron bivalent shot. Within a short time there were five shots available for everyone.
Currently the situation is that there are Covid vaccination shots at pharmacies and everywhere just waiting to be used.
From the article, “What does the future look like for monkeypox?,” Nature,
Wouldn’t vaccination quash the outbreak?
Hundreds of thousands of doses have been distributed in Europe and the United States to help vaccinate people at high risk, such as men who have sex with men and people who have been in contact with someone exposed to the virus. Vaccinating everyone isn’t an option: the United States anticipates that fewer than two million doses of the most widely used vaccine — a repurposed smallpox jab — will be available this year. [Boldface added.]
Given that a reasonable estimate of the number of Gay people would be about 100 million adult men times 3% means we need 3 million does and there are only 2 million planned. This should raise the issue in this article, supposedly about the future of monkeypox, what is the plan to boost production. But it isn’t mentioned.
Further what is the plan to have a vaccine that is highly effective. Not discussed in an article supposedly about the future of monkeypox.
Even how helpful the current vaccination campaign has been in reducing monkeypox is in question since the effectiveness of the vaccine is in doubt and there doesn’t seem to be any definitive studies being done on effectiveness. (The lack of definitive studies should tell you how important Gays are to the medical establishment.) Discussing the current vaccine effort the article states.
But it is unclear how much this has contributed to the slowdown in case numbers. One preprint2, for instance, has suggested that, in people who have never had a smallpox inoculation, the vaccine does not seem to greatly boost levels of antibodies that can neutralize the monkeypox virus, and which are one component of an immune response. By contrast, the CDC has released crude case-rate data from US jurisdictions suggesting that monkeypox incidence — among those people recommended to receive the vaccine — has been more than ten times higher among unvaccinated than vaccinated individuals (see go.nature.com/3yifurf). (These data, however, were not controlled for age, underlying conditions, behaviour or other differences between the two groups). Several clinical trials testing vaccine effectiveness are under way. (Boldface added.)
Notice the boldface section. The study that the CDC has done is sort of junk.
Further the article explains:
It is also unclear how long vaccine effects will last.
So what is their long term plan? From the article:
Even if vaccines do arrive, behavioural changes will be needed to curb monkeypox, especially given the unanswered questions about vaccine effectiveness, says Adesola Yinka-Ogunleye, a London-based epidemiologist at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. [Boldface added.]
The plan is a permanent shutdown of Gay sexual life.
What we need to demand
This isn’t acceptable. The Gay community should be demanding loudly the following.
An effective vaccination.
An adequate supply of vaccines.
Have the vaccine easily available and without answering a lot of questions about your sex life or having to be on hold trying to call in for an appointment.
What is the so-called LGBTQXYZ leadership doing?
Not much if at all.
The Stonewall Democrats are busy vote harvesting for the 2022 mid-term elections and they are squeamish about Gays and STDs anyways. The big focus and the political energy is going into puberty blockers for pre-teens, an issue which will likely be a disaster for the Gay community as the LGBTQXYZ drag them along over the cliff.
With LGBTQIAPP+ gay concerns are lost in the shuffle and it is 98.5% MSM getting it so the other letters really don’t care.
The social welfare groups are dependant on funding by government and foundations and raising a ruckus on those who fund you, that is biting the hand that feeds you, isn’t a good strategy and Gays with monkeypox isn’t thought to be an appealing issue anyways.
The Respectability Gays just wish we all get marriage and be monogamous and focus on some middle class thing.
I have discussed the lack of interest in Gay health issues by the LGBTQXYZ and have a link to a post on this issue at the end of this newsletter.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO
The LGBTQXYZ establishment and the Democrats will respond to what is a kick in the pants.
Don’t vote for a Democratic congressional candidate if they don’t come up with an effective plan for monkeypox.
Make it clear to Democrats that you will be showing up for the mid-term election, but you won’t be voting Democrat unless they have an effective monkeypox plan.
You could vote for the local third-party candidate who has no chance of getting elected, but your vote would help cheer them up. Or don’t vote and only vote for the state and local candidates. If you are voting Republican, don’t change your plans.
The current and ongoing policies of ignoring Gay health needs and taking the Gay community for granted to vote Democrat has to stop, otherwise they are just going to continue to take us for granted.
Longer term we need to have a plan to deal with Gay health issues. Again, see the link to the post below.
