Gays face a lot of social pressure that their sexuality can be changed or to get married. Homophobia can result in Gay self-denial.
Lots of straight people aski, “how do you know you won’t enjoy sex with a women if you haven’t tried it?”
Some Gay men dated as a cover. Some Gay men had heterosexual sex because they were in denial of their sexuality or thought it would change it. They listen to straight people advice to try it, even though they didn’t feel the desire.
Also, a lot of Gays have gotten married because of parental pressure, because they thought it would change them, because they didn’t think being Gay was valid or they were anti-Gay and wanted to live as a straight person. You run into a lot of cases where the Gay person got married and later there was a divorce.
Society also has these “coming of age” stories and a key element in these stories is that the young man has sex with a woman. It has the implication that Gay men aren’t adults.
Gays are keenly aware of social pressures and arguments to convince them to have heterosexual relations.
Gay people compare their life trajectories with each other. Some realized they were Gay very early in life, and there is a slang expression, “8 before 7,” for them. Others late in life.
Gay people also compare whether they had sex with a woman or not, did society’s social pressures and homophobia press them to do it against their sexual nature. Or did they successfully resist society’s pressures? There is a slang term, “Gold Star” gays. You successfully resisted heteronormative and homophobic society.
It has nothing to do with transgender, it is just that transgender think everything is about them. It also shows how transmen are not part of the Gay experience and are outsiders, and really don’t care about the Gay experience either. They are in the Gay community to appropriate it.
