Iowa lawmakers want to ban vaccines by a different way.
KCRG, March 5, 2025, “Bill would ban vaccines in Iowa unless manufacturer waives legal immunity.”
Wednesday, lawmakers advanced a bill that bans vaccines from being administered unless the manufacturer waives any immunity they may have from lawsuits.
Most vaccines are low margin pharmaceuticals. Sometime back, juries would give really large awards on the pretext that a vaccine caused one thing or another. Juries often would respond to crying and bogus claims.
The number of vaccine manufacturers started to diminish and there was a fear that there would be no vaccine manufacturers. So a claim system was set up so people could get compensated, but the vaccine manufacturers could continue in business.
A mechanism for people who have been injured by vaccines already exists. People who think they were injured can file a claim under the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.
The article also stated.
Earlier this week, Senate lawmakers considered a bill that would ban all vaccines that contain mRNA, like the COVID shot.
That bill was not passed out of the Senate committee, meaning lawmakers likely won’t vote on it this session.
Another article.
These doofuses to observe what other doofuses like themselve do. So even if you aren’t in Iowa, this type of legislation might be coming to your state.
Originally it seems that there was a proposal to ban mRNA vaccines, and the lawmaker has decided to reword it to scrap the arrangement for vaccine manufactures in general. You have to listen to this news report to the latter half.
You can ban a vaccine in ways that technically aren’t bans, but effectively so.
In Iowa, the vaccine manufacturers, given their low margins, might just stop selling vaccines to anyone in Iowa and have a ban on purchasers re-selling the vaccine to anyone in Iowa.
If a person goes out of state to get vaccinated, there might be an interpretation that the person can’t get medical coverage for anything that results. This could be used to intimidate those who are already vaccine hesitant, even though the risk is nearly negible or zero.
Your insurance may not cover it. Your insurance company operating in the state in which you live, might not cover it. If they did, they would be involved in circumventing the law.
In Texas here they have laws making it illegal to help a woman go to another state to get an abortion. Some interpretation might make it illegal to drive someone to another state to get vaccinated.
Even if you arrive in another state, the doctors there might not want to give you a vaccine so they aren’t harrassed by the Iowa attorney general.
The Texas Attorney General is suing a New York doctor for prescribing and providing an abortion pill. This is the Texas AG’s webpage on this.
The abortion pill is illegal in Texas, so it isn’t the same thing, but this shows that lawmakers do work to prevent residents of their state to circumvent their laws by going to another state.
If it is illegal to go to another state to get vaccinated, then a doctor outside the state is colluding to aid someone to evade state law.
It might just be there is no legal case, but the doctor doesn’t want to spend the money and time to find out, or want to have to avoid a specific state for the rest of his life. Or be threaten by anti-vaxxers.
In this case the lawmakers are trying one tactic. There might be other tactics tried with the tactic represented as for the public good. Special regulations for the safe transport of vaccines might be thought up on the premise that the vaccines need to be handled a certain way which would require special vehicles and equipment for transport making the cost prohibitive.
Law makers to circumvent Roe vs. Wade, tried to block abortion by having regulaions for the construction of abortion clinics that made it impossible to have abortions, but not actually prohibit abortions. Doors had to be a certain size and there were other nonsensical things. There is precedent of lawmakers devising things to make something unavailable without it being banned.
Again, if you are not caught up on your vaccinations or haven’t been vaccinated, you might consider getting your vaccinations now.
Consult your doctor, but for vaccines recommended for those 65 and older, and if you are maybe 60 and older, you might want to get vaccinated now anyways.
Federal actions against vaccines.
That will be coming I think, but I am going to write on that seperately.
What to do.
Be current on your vaccines. Consult your doctor about vaccines normally recommended for those 65 and older.
Make sure you have gloves, masks, and alcohol on hand for when you can’t get vaccinated. Read the section on pandemic actions besides vaccination.
Start thinking about how you will pay for your vaccination if insurance won’t cover it and for the travel to get it.
Think about where you will go to get vaccinated. The doctor in the county just past the state line probably won’t want to do it. The state close by might also have effectively or actually have banned vaccines.
As the rates of vaccination drop, the risk of getting diseases increases.
Make sure you have masks, gloves and alcohol on hand. When everyone realizes this, the store shelves will be empty.
