Thanks for sharing your opinion. It’s important to have a good discussion on this subject and hear a variety of reasons for the actions of policy makers at the types of facilities like Grizzly Pines. It does not change my relationship with gay campgrounds or any gay/bi related facility if trans people attend. I fear that Grizzly Pines and other groups or facilities that make the same decision are following in the footsteps of many who choose to discriminate against others. The trans community is a minor subset of the queer community. Because of its small population it’s an easy group to target for those who want to justify discrimination. I would suggest that many if not most trans people identified as gay prior to coming out as trans. When gay identified facilities choose to ban trans they are choosing to separate the queer community just as the more populous straight community already does. These facilities are jumping on the bandwagon of far-right groups that fundamentally would like to end the existence of all queer people. Why? The leaders and owners of these facilities know that trans people are under assault both politically and culturally. Why jump on that bandwagon? Are they trying to make "gay" more mainstream by siding with those opposing trans? I believe a better approach would be to allow trans to attend their facilities. In reality, very few trans do attend. Trans people are certainly aware of how they are being talked about and treated and need the support of every letter in the LGBTQIA+ community. I have frequented 4 gay campgrounds in the past two weeks on my trip across the country. I have seen one trans person. It's much like when the president of the NCAA said there were only 12 trans athletes participating in all of division one college sports. It’s really a non-issue. Why insist on separating queer people, and banning trans, when you know what the trans community is facing in the moment. I wish the queer community would instead be supportive of trans, accept the few who choose to come to a gay campground. When we separate and isolate a part of the queer community and help the far right accomplish their goals it may not be long before your identified group is the next target. Should a gay campground who supports gay bears refuse to admit someone who is smooth? How far do you want to extend this? Think about what you are doing to the larger queer community by separating one section. It most likely will be no issue for your gay campground. Don't make it an issue by throwing trans people under the bus as the general public is doing now. Be supportive of all queer people, it’s more important than ever.
